The Derek J. Olivier Foundation of Louisiana was created to honor Derek J. Olivier who lost his life to gun violence as he was beginning his future in Little Rock, Arkansas.

Derek J. Olivier was born September 29, 1992 to Joseph and Alma Olivier of Grand Marais, Louisiana. He enjoyed riding horses, fishing with his godfather, Damian, Mardi Gras activities, playing with his dog (Sugar), playing jokes on his dad and playing with his nieces. Derek had two older siblings, sister, Felicia and brother, Antoine. He had a passion for football at an early age through high school and continued at Arkansas Baptist College. Derek graduated from New Iberia Senior High School in 2012 and continued his education at Arkansas Baptist College, Little Rock, Arkansas and played football as a cornerback.

Arkansas Baptist College

In 2016, Arkansas Baptist College established Derek Olivier Research Institute (DORI) for the prevention of gun violence that collects, analyzes and tracks trends to violence to harness best practices and solutions for the prevention of violent behaviors detrimental to community safety.

DORI is not a program, but a research institute that assists/support programs, centers, clubs, schools, academies, institutions, law enforcement, etc. This support comes in the form of data/research on why Black males are being killed by other Black Males, and why they are the killing kings per capita for any ethnic group in the U.S. since 1950.
